“STOP CHILD ABUSE” LICENSE PLATE TO BENEFIT CAC’S

During its regular 2003 session, the Florida Legislature passed a bill creating a “Stop Child Abuse” license plate that will benefit Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC’s) and Children’s Home Society (CHS). On June 19, 2003, Karen Godley and Sondra Williams represented the Florida Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers (FNCAC) in a bill-signing ceremony with Governor Jeb Bush and Senator Rod Smith. The bill was sponsored in the Senate by Senator Smith and in the House by Representative David Mealor.

PROCLAMATION TO PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF APRIL 2007
AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
FOR HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

WHEREAS, April was first declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by President Ronald Reagan's proclamation in 1985.

WHEREAS, The Administrative Office of the Courts' Children's Justice Center, has contributed to the protection of children by providing child focused services for child victims consisting of forensic interviewing, depositions, closed circuit testimony and supervised visitations; and

WHEREAS, the Children's Justice Center has recognized child abuse awareness month every year since 1998 by handing out blue ribbons, tying blue ribbons to the trees outside the courthouse and speaking to groups and organizations about Child Abuse Prevention Month; and

WHEREAS, we must work together as a community to increase awareness about child abuse and how we can stop it, because prevention remains the best defense for our children; and

WHEREAS, it takes a collaborative effort among neighbors, community groups, faith-based organizations, schools, businesses, law enforcement, the courts and government agencies to succeed in this effort; and

WHEREAS, no one wants a child to hurt; and

WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect prevention begins in the home.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners of Hillsborough County, does hereby declare

In Hillsborough County, Florida we call upon all individuals, schools, courts, businesses, agencies, and local communities to join in this observance and urge all citizens to work together to help reduce child abuse and neglect.
